Left
and right are2 models of decoration which I used in the past.
The one at right is decorated with imitation of ceramics, all
painted, varnished, painted and varnished again to give the perfect
illusion of old ceramics tiles.
I
decided to decorate thie new pice with imitation blue Delft tiles.

I searched
the web for a site which would display photos of blue Delft plates and
tiles.
Here are some pieces which could serve me as models of subjects, colours
and styles.

I chose 3
different wood types for the tainting. The legs and table plate are mahogany
imitation and the sabots lemon tree, while the round holding bar is walnut.
The small tongues holding the inclined board are also lemon tree.
|
|
|
The inclined
board is to be decorated with 4 blue Delft tiles.
First the entire tile area was covered with thick stucco, then sanded,
then varnished with an acrylic varnish. These 2 operations were repeated
several times. A lot of varnish creates the tiles' illusion.
The wooden frame around the tile area was covered with masking tape for
protection. It will later be tainted mahogany style.
I made a
test of colour and brushes on a separate piece of wood prepared in the
same manner.
|
|
|
I
selected these 4 tiles as model. Except for the blue which was not properly
reproduced in these downloaded photos. There are some variations of blue
Delft. I like most the ultra-marine type. That's what I intend to use.
On this line are the downloaded models.
On the next line my interpretation.

The
photo at left shows how you can modify the inclination by rolling the
bar forward or backward under the sabots.
