The idea

The mask was produced in 2003 with a legend as a story of anticipated archeology.

Recently I got an idea on how to display the legend next to the mask.
It would appear behind transparent windows
of rectangular shapes reserved from a mirror pane.

A wood panel of 75x100 would support the mirror at left and the mask at right. Clcik it to enlarge.

Execution

First I went to the mirror manufacturer and set a masking tape in the places of the transparent windows on a galss panel of 70x50. . After the glass panel went through the machine I removed the masking tapes and got the expected result shown above.

The next step was to get the text printed white on black.
I prepared an image of it with Corel Draw at the dimensions 70x50 and brought it to a local company to be printed.

I placed the mirror 2cm above the printed sheet, and an halogen bulb of 10W inside on the top left corner. A second bulb should come on the right down corner. Very difficult to photograph! But that gives the idea.

To protect from the heat of the bulb I cut a small sheet of reflecting stainless steal and formed it in a long U shape canal, and placed the bulb inside it.

The piece is finished. Click the pictures to enlarge.

In the mirror you an distinguish a portrait (of G. Mahler) and the camera taking the picture with me holding it. You may also see the effect of the lighting behind the mirror on top left and below right.
This piece should be exposed in a darker room with a spot focusing on the mask.
