The idea

While working on the "Homo electronicus - Mask" project, and specifically on the wood back panel on which to hang the Mask, I accidentally ended up with a strange shape resembling a skull, and after some light touches I really got a death mask. The image inspired fear.
It had no no teeth.
So came the idea to use keys from a computer keyboard to make the teeth. I chose the letters 'FEAR'.

As Nicolas de Stael wrote once:
"Je crois au hasard, exactement."
"I believe in chance, exactly"
For the next few weeks I was often thinking on what to do with that image of fear.

Visit the pages showing some of my former modern art works using computer pieces.

Back keyboard panel

One day I got the idea - put it behind 2 small doors attached with hinges to the wood panel - and the door should be covered with electronic circuits.

I remembered I had taken apart a computer keyboard which had a beautiful back panel. Each back key is covered with a shiny aluminum dot.
That would make a nice door with the side of the keys toward the inside and the back of the keyboard panel on the outside.

I took apart some other keyboards but they had a different back panel, mostly plastic sheets. The first was a Compaq PC keyboard. I asked around to find a second one, and did find it.
Now I had my 2 doors to work with.

Execution

It was a cabinet maker challenge to build those doors on which to attached the 2 keyboards. But I am getting professional in this type of work.
The wood is varnished in 2 different mahogany imitation.

I slightly modified the skull painting, adding red lips as the only alive part of the mask.

As for the title of the piece, it became obvious that it should be "FEAR".
Fear of what? I guess fear of the dehumanizing world of automation! By the way I personally am not in fear!.

So the mask has teeth which say "?FEAR!"
The keys are 3/4 burried into the wood panel.

I thought that some text should accompany the picture.
So I tried my first little poem in English.
