At one point I thought of avoiding any of the more common views of the statue facing the viewer like in the sketch above. Two years ago while in New York I took the ferry to the island and made many photos walking around the statue so as to be able to choose the position which would best fit my project. I finally chose the shot marked with a redish arrow in the middle of the set because it was the best compromise between the impression of walking movement clearly visible with most of the shots at the left and the necessity to show at least some of the face.
I also wanted to display, somehow somewhere, the statement which titled the work: The statue of Liberty is not prisoner of red-tape, it is held together by red-tape. But had no idea how. I just felt that the statement was needed since it was not possible to clearly and completely express the idea with pictorial images only. |
