Development of the idea - Execution ( continued)

It was now time to insert a portrait of Miles Davis which I chose to represent one of the main cultural innovation in the USA: the Jazz music. And I chose Miles Davis because he is one of the last giant figures of creative music and a magician of the trumpet. I wanted a recent portrait shortly before his death, as an older man, and chose an image which I extracted from the video recording of his concert in Montreux where Quincy Jones directed a remake of the Gil Evans arrangements for big band of the early “cool” period of jazz music.
Since the portrait was placed in the lower right corner of the panel it had to face toward the center and this required to play a little trick on his hand which I had to mirror image so that it appears as if left handed even though Miles actually was right handed. Here again the exclusive use of spatula fits well the rugged face and beautiful hand.
