The Improbable
Future
- Wounded Robot -
Acrylic and collage on wood panel 70x50, 2002
The robot
is gravely wounded, loses blood and cryes for help! A torn piece of paper
comes out of his mouth with the writing "j'ai mal" (I have pain).
Blood comes down from his square eyes and nose nostrils.
Computer
printed circuits from 1965 to 2002 have been used for the forehead and
nose. The eyes are core memory planes from the CDC6600 (1965). Pieces
of broken mirrors make his cheeks. His mouth and teeth are a keyboard
glued on a printing mechanism.
The image
at far left was taken from he work in progress.

The Infinite
Memory of the World
Acrylic and collage on wood panel 70x50, 2002
The image
on far left shows the robot's head on the front of a first panel. The
image immediatly left shows the back of that panel. This first panel is
mounted with hinges on a second panel covered with a broken mirror on
which the back side of the first panel reflects. Click on the image at
left to see the construction.
The forehead of the robot is made of a single computer master board seen
on the printed circuit side. The other face of that board (with the circuits
components) is visible on the back side through a window cut in the panel.
The rest of the back of this panel is covered with CDC-ROM as 'The Memory
of the World'.
This picture should be hanged with the first panel slightly open so the
observer can see both the front and the back refelected in the mirror.
